This creation is one of the 23 finalists for the second edition of the Fabrique 1840 Award, which aims to drive the next generation of Canadian artisans forward and support diversity.
When creating Indigo Arrows in 2016, member of the Peguis First Nation and designer Destiny Seymour set out to revive the ancient traditions of her Anishinaabe ancestors and integrate them into our modern lives. Her textile creations revive not only decorative patterns used for generations by Indigenous peoples in the prairies, but also the Anishinaabemowin language. The Bezhig pattern of these tea towels is inspired by a scraper sculpted in elk antler over 400 years ago and found in Birtle, Manitoba. Like a bridge between the past and present, it will immortalize the memory of a rich past and create a welcoming ambiance in your kitchen.
