In this very first edition of the Fabrique 1840 award, hundreds of artisans from all over Canada competed creatively to earn themselves a spot among the 30 finalists as well as the opportunity to present to you, the public, their interpretation of the established theme: revival.
For designer Destiny Seymour, a member of the Peguis First Nation, the topic of renewal is fitting: she launched Indigo Arrows in 2016 with the purpose of reviving the millennial traditions of her Anishinaabe ancestors and reintegrating them into our modern lives. Her textile creations revive not only patterns bearing thousands of years of history, but also the Anishinaabemowin language. The triangles dancing on this cushion are called Ishkoday, which stands for "flint." As symbols of fire, they'll bring warmth, energy, and renewal into your home.
