The Duen Ship
Norwegian for "Dove"
Built as a fishing vessel in Flekkefjord, Norway, in 1939, the ship was used in the Shetland Bus operation during World War II to ferry Norwegian refugees and scientists to the Shetland Islands.
In the 1970s, it was acquired and restored by American couple Dottie and Albert Fletcher, who embarked on a 15-year world cruise without the use of electronic aids, using instead a traditional sextant for navigation.
In 1986, Michael and Manon Hobbis took over ownership of the sailing vessel and founded Duen Sailing Adventures Inc. in Victoria, British Columbia, where they offer educational eco-tourism sailing adventures along Canada's West Coast to showcase the region's rich natural beauty and local culture.
